  9. I have been terribly shocked at the news that 26-year-old Chris Batan was
  10. killed on 23 February 1993. He was a human rights activist, member of the
  11. Cordillera People's Alliance, working in defence of indigenous people's
  12. rights in the northern Luzon region. One of the perpetrators, a CAFGU
  13. member, was said to have been detained but was later seen at large.
  14. I urge you to see to it that those responsible for the unprovoked
  15. killing of Chris Batan be brought to justice.
